I first saw Daniel Neihoff at his Kerrville New Folk performance and really liked what I heard. My friends know that my liking someone in the Kerrville New Folk competition is the "kiss of death" for that songwriter. There's no way they are going to win. So, just imagine how good Daniel is that he was selected by the judges as a winner, despite my having liked him. The youngest of six siblings, Daniel wrote his first song at 8 years of age as he grew up around family fit for country songs – the old kind about struggle and lonesomeness, mistakes among enduring love. The melodies and legends were all around him in his family, and it all seeped in. By 20, he successfully auditioned for a set at Nashville’s iconic Bluebird Cafe and has since been described as one of the best storytelling songwriters in Nashville . In addition to being a Kerrville New Folk winner, Daniel is a 2019 Finalist and 2020 Semi-Finalist in the Songwriter Serenade, finished third in the 2020 Woody Guthrie Folk Festival songwriter competition, and a semi-finalist on Nashville Rising Song songwriting competition. He released a five-song EP, Appalachian Cry, in 2019.
