The 2017 Western Music Association Group of the Year, The Cowboy Way, is made up of Jim Jones, Doug Figgs, and Mariam Funke. Their family friendly shows feature tight harmonies, high energy and smoking instrumentals. These prolific songwriters take you on the ride of a lifetime as they honor the traditional cowboy songs and bowl you over with a dynamic cover of a southern rock tune. Jim is a native Texan, an award-winning songwriting, an author of Western novels, producer of award-winning children's character education videos, and 2-time Kerrville New Folk finalist. His songs “Cowboys of New Mexico," "Texas is Burnin," "The Fires of Goliad," and "Halfway Down the Devil's Road" have received awards for Western Song of the Year. In 2008 he received the Academy of Western Artists Will Rogers Award for Best Male Western Vocalist and in 2014, Jim was named the Western Music Association Male Performer of the Year. Doug is a singer/songwriter, a cowboy, and a Certified Journeyman Farrier. In 2015, he was named Songwriter of the Year by the Western Music Association and received the Academy of Western Artists Will Rogers Award for Best Male Western Vocalist. His 4th album, "A Cowboy Like Me" received the Rural Roots Music Commission's 2016 Traditional Western Music CD of the Year award. His song "Socios" received the Academy of Western Artists Will Rogers Award for Best Western Song in 2014 and was named 2015 Western Music Association Song of the Year. Two other songs written by Doug,"Charlie and Evangeline" and "Running With The Wind," have also received Best Western Song awards. Singer/songwriter and guitarist Mariam is from Germany and cut his musical teeth on a wide variety of musical styles, from classical, jazz and pop to rock, country and blues. He provides the lead guitar and 3rd harmony vocal for The Cowboy Way.
